At 90 degrees - Line-up so that you can look along the length of the 3rd line forwards of the space (A), check your right side for hazards – full lock as soon as you move.
Use the top-left-side mirror (B) (our cars only) to make sure you are the correct side of the line. It is better to be tight to the line on the left side when you come in as it is easy to correct by straightening slightly.
Remember you can shunt forwards at least twice to correct or re-align if you are unsure. If you do shunt make sure you go far enough forwards to make a difference You should be looking over your shoulder – out of the rear window at least half of the time when reversing.
On the test:
Ensure that you get in between the lines of the bay. It doesn't matter if you drive over the bay next to you as long as there isn't a car in it. If any wheel is outside the bay it is a serious fault, a wheel on the line is a minor fault. You can shunt forwards at any stage to correct yourself; how many times you can shunt forwards will depend on the examiner - but do it as many times as necessary. Observation is probably the most important aspect of this manoeuvre - you should be looking out of the back window at least half of the time. Remember to check your right side frequently as well
