Our Chief Instructor

Alan has been a full-time professional driving instructor for almost twenty years, and has over 20,000 hours learner driver teaching experience. He also has a degree in education and combined sciences.

As well as being a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) his further driving qualifications include passing the Cardington Special Driving Test for Approved Driving Instructors (This is very similar to the driving test that the driving examiners have to pass, and is the hardest test the Driving Standards Agency conduct).

He has also qualified as a DSA registered Fleet Driver Trainer and was on the DSA Fleet Driver Trainer Register which qualified him to train experienced company car drivers to improve their driving skills.

Alan has also passed the Driving Instructors Association DIAmond Advanced Test, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) Advanced Test, The Royal Society of Accidents (RoSPA) Advanced Test (this is the closest test to a Police Class One test that a civilian can do), The Heavy Goods Vehicle Test (HGV / LGV C + E) Class One (for Articulated Trucks), the Public Service Vehicle Test (PSV / PCV D + E) Class One (for double-decker buses and coaches), and the Motorcycle Test.

He is now learning to fly an aeroplane and is currently experiencing what it is like to be in the learner’s seat for himself. Alan considers this an invaluable lesson because he has been reminded how it feels to struggle to learn a new skill.  He feels he now has much more understanding and empathy with his own pupils.
